5 Things You Should Do With Your New Home Before The Movers Arrive

Once you get your home packed up, you deserve to sit back and relax for a little. Packing up all of your belongings takes time, but once you wave goodbye to your reliable team of movers, your job isn’t entirely done yet. If you’re experiencing the anxiety of moving to a new place, rest assured, we understand the challenges that come with relocation. So, after you take a much-deserved break, you’ll want to do a few things in your new home in Folsom before the movers arrive.

Preparing your new home for the movers is often a task that is overlooked, but we’re here to help guide you through the best moving experience possible. So whether you’re looking for movers in Folsom or El Dorado Hills, we are the team to support you every step of the way.

Clean up

If someone else lived in your new home before you, you might want to give your new abode a quick clean up before the movers arrive. Without all of your furniture and belongings, you’ll be able to clean the spaces you might miss otherwise. A nice deep clean will leave the new place move-in ready and help it feel more like home.

Update your address

If you haven’t already, change your new address so that you don’t miss any important bills or invitations while you’re mid-move. You can change your address with the USPS online or at your nearest post office. Just make sure you plan ahead on this one because although mail forwarding may begin within three business days of your submitted request, it’s best to allow up to 2 weeks.

Reserve parking for the movers

The farther your movers have to walk to and from your front door, the longer the job will take, which could potentially cost you more money. If you think reserving parking could be an issue, try talking to your neighbors and see if they wouldn’t mind keeping a few spots empty. The closer your movers can get, the better.

Prep your home for the movers

If you’ve already moved some boxes yourself, make sure they’re out of the way for when the movers come. They’ll be moving some of your biggest belongings, so, for safety reasons, it’s essential to keep any walkways completely clear. It’s also important to make sure your new home is protected. Ask your moving company what they plan on doing to keep your home from getting scratched and bumped. And don’t forget to turn on the heat or the air conditioning if you can! It’ll make the moving experience much more enjoyable for everyone.

Remove doors (if necessary)

If you have small door frames and larger furniture, it’s a good idea to remove your doors before the movers arrive. Removing a door is relatively simple. You’ll need to take a nail and place it on the pin in the center of the hinge. Then, you can use a hammer to tap the nail, and the pin will slide out. Repeat with the second hinge, and you’re done. Doing this can offer you just enough room to get some more oversized furniture through the door.

Now you know how to be properly prepared for moving day when your Folsom movers arrive! Enjoy your new home!
